A safety campaign designed to get workers looking after their most valuable tools.

Fulton Hogan is one of Australasia’s leading infrastructure and construction companies with multiple sites across Australia and New Zealand. With hand injuries becoming an increasing concern across its worksites, they needed a cultural campaign that would encourage workers to think twice before putting their hands at risk.

The Challenge

With live sites featuring life-threatening dangers all around, the challenge wasn’t a lack of safety information. Workers were already surrounded by it. The real problem was getting their attention and changing everyday behaviour, particularly when minor hand injuries were often dismissed as part of the job.

The idea

Instead of another lecture about workplace safety, we created a catchphrase that could become part of the everyday language on site: Hands! Hands! Hands!

Deliberately simple. Three words work as both a warning and a reminder. Easy to remember, easy to repeat and, importantly, something one worker could call out to another when they spotted a potential risk.

Bringing it to life

We developed a flexible visual system that could appear all over worksites. The campaign’s bold black typography and high-vis orange made the message impossible to miss.

Site safety packs included: posters, large banners, signage and helmet stickers, placing the reminder wherever workers would encounter it.

We also created a video that extended the idea into real-world scenarios, showing how a simple call of Hands! Hands! Hands! could interrupt a potentially unsafe moment. This was distributed throughout the company and formed part of the induction process onsite.

The result was a high impact safety campaign with a memorable message, designed to turn a moment of awareness into a safer decision.
